Artist Statement
I have been fascinated by sculpture since a very young age and sculpted off and on for some years. After immigrating to America, my dream was put on the backburner for a while,
although my interest never faded.
I began to sculpt again in the Bay Area about 10 years ago. As a classical figurative sculptor, I work to understand and express the dynamics, beauty, and emotions of the human form.
I studied with Anne Fisher at the Adult School in Orinda, Sahava Sherez and Lourdam Kimbrell at Studio One in Oakland, and Carol Tarzier at Fort Mason in San Francisco. My studies also include hands on classes in “ Anatomy for Artists “ and “ Portrait “, which were taught by Steven Perkins.
I have been sculpting directly from a live model in numerous groups for a number of years, including one in Carol Tarzier’s Studio. The challenge of working three dimentionally intrigues very much. It takes many months to create and finish a sculpture.
My work is originally sculpted in either water-based clay or oil-based clay, called plastalina. The pieces are then fired or a mold is cast from the original plastalina figure. The wax piece is then checked by me before I have the bronze cast. The resin pieces, which I have poured, are then finished by me sanding and polishing them.
